Stromboli - Rolled up Pizza... sort of.

I've never heard of strombolis before watching @AdamRichman on Man v's food.  You can watch the episode here.  It looked something that Hubby and I really wanted to try.

It's pizza dough encasing any filling you can imagine.  It's sort of like a rolled up pizza.

Hubby chose cheddar cheese, chilli con carne, bacon, fried egg, salsa (diced tomato, capsicum and red onion) and a splash of hot sauce.

I chose sliced boccocini, pork ragu (homemade), caramalised onions, sliced mushrooms, diced tomatoes and cucmber and another lay of boccocini.

To make the pizza dough, you can find the recipe here on a previous post.  After letting the dough rise for about a hour or until it doubled in size, roll out into a rectangle.  Place the filling of your choice in the centre.  take the side closest to you and fold over.  Then take both sides and fold over.  Fold over the last side, stretching the dough to ensure that all of the filling is totally covered.  Pierce a few holes on the top to let the air escape.

Bake in a preheat oven (180deg) for about 15 minutes until the dough is brown.

Bon Appetite,
Cherrie.

  1. I make mini versions of these - I called them calzones, but I think that's the wrong name? Anyway, pizza of any form is delicious. Much love for bocconcini!
